In my mind, there is a moment
Where we recognize each other
For what we are: connected.
This second leaves us breathless, silent,
Wandering in our hearts with lips on fire,
Minds on fast forward.

Like a camera, our mouths shutters,
Capturing each moment with
Picture perfect sense and understanding,
With truth.

In my mind, this is what we hold on to
When the world is gray:
The color in the frames,
The life in our cheeks,
A shy blush or a passionate smile,
Everything in reverse, upside down
But beautiful and strong.

The lines on our palms matching,
Half-broken hearts fitting in.
We are a plan, a belief, a future.
We are a religion in our love,
A savior to each other.
(We lead through the storm,
Cling to brightening dreams.)

In my mind, there is no time
When we disappear,
No time when we end.
Only a steady crescendo of hope
In a world of decline.
