Hopelessness weighs down
Like a stopwatch on the days we have
And I fight the movement of my fingers
Waiting to burst forth from their nimble cages
And make their way across your body
Tiptoeing along your skin.

And when you're gone
I find my body restless, aching to place
(To find a place to stay)
My chin upon your shoulder
Or my hand on top of yours
Or a word onto your lips
So I can breathe.

This is all I know of life: you and I and
Our moments together
Defining within those minutes
What the world forgets
In its entire existance:

Conversations in adirondack chairs
Temptation in its strongest form
Distorted by the hope in your eyes
And the way joy returned without a word
After a disappointing absence.

You've taken me from darkness to decision
From loneliness to lust
And the journey
Without collapsing in between
Was worth the pain that swam inside me
Worth the dreams that went unpressed.
